What we collect
Your Story submissions: what you type into the form — your account of what happened, the county and age band you choose, and an email address if you choose to give one. Submissions go into a private moderation queue. Nothing is published without review, and nothing identifying is published without your explicit consent.
Email: if you email us, we hold your address and message to reply and to keep a record of the correspondence.
Analytics and cookies: this site currently sets no cookies and runs no third-party analytics.
What we do with it
- Review story submissions for publication, in anonymised form unless you explicitly agree otherwise.
- Contact you about your submission if you provided an email and asked us to.
- Compile anonymised, aggregate patterns (e.g. “x submissions mention promotion processes”) for campaign material.
We do not sell data, share it with third parties for marketing, or use it for anything beyond the campaign purposes above. Data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore) in accordance with their security practices.
Your rights (UK GDPR)
You can ask us at any time to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it entirely — including a story you submitted and later think better of. Email hello@backbonebritain.uk with “data request” in the subject line. If you’re unhappy with how we handle it, you can complain to the ICO.
Retention
Unpublished submissions are deleted after 24 months. Published stories stay up until you ask for removal — your story remains yours.
